Construction restarts!

We are pleased to share a positive update on the Building Together project.

Over the past several months, the project team has been investigating a water egress issue that was identified during construction.  A solution has been developed, and successful testing has demonstrated that it works. This means we are ready to move forward with the necessary remediation and restart construction.

As a result of this work, the project schedule has been extended, with completion now anticipated in 2027.

Over the coming weeks, you will begin to see activity on site again. The building will be scaffolded and wrapped to allow for the remediation work. As we move into the rainy season, the building will remain wrapped until the exterior is fully watertight, helping to protect the building and support the quality of the work.

We are excited to see construction moving ahead once again and will continue to keep our staff, partners, and community informed as the project progresses.

Update on new building project timeline

Our new building project timeline has been adjusted, with no impact on current services.

We are currently experiencing a delay in the construction of our new building. This delay will extend the project timeline into 2027. At this time, we do not yet know how far into 2027 the delay will be, but we are actively working with our partners to better understand the impacts and revised schedule. Our programs and services continue as usual and are not impacted by this delay. As soon as we have more information, we will share it with you.

Despite this setback, we remain confident in our ability to successfully complete this project to a high standard. Community Services has a long history of delivering complex projects through strong oversight, thoughtful planning, and responsible risk management. That same diligence continues to guide this work.

Projects of this size and complexity can encounter challenges along the way. When issues arise, our approach is to address them promptly, work collaboratively with the appropriate experts, and make decisions that protect the long-term success of the project. While delays are disappointing, they are being managed carefully, and our commitment to creating a high-quality space that serves our community for years to come remains unchanged. We will continue to provide updates as the revised timeline becomes clearer.

Opening doors to safety and stability

Interior spaces are beginning to take shape, bringing us closer to opening doors that will support individuals and families across the Coast.  This space will bring together essential services under one roof, along with 35 affordable homes for women and children, creating a place of safety, stability, and connection.

We’re also grateful to have recently secured another naming opportunity, reflecting the strong and growing support for this project across the Coast.

As we move toward completion, there are still opportunities to be part of this project through naming opportunities. For those who have chosen to do so, it has been a meaningful way to honour a loved one, share a personal story, or create a lasting legacy.

January 2026

A new year, big milestones ahead

We’re excited to see steady progress on the Building Together project. Construction continues at the rough-in stage across the building, including the upper floors. This week marks an important milestone, with the first major round of inspections taking place - paving the way for insulation and drywall to begin at the top levels. Exterior work is also moving ahead, with metalwork and flashing set to begin soon, followed by exterior insulation and finishes. In the coming weeks, on-site civil works will start for BC Hydro, water, and Fortis gas services.

Each step brings us closer to opening the doors to safe, stable homes for women and children on the Sunshine Coast. While construction is moving forward, community support continues to play a critical role in getting us across the finish line.

It's all starting to take shape!

Progress continues on our new community services hub at the end of Inlet Avenue, and every day brings exciting changes! The roof is up, windows are being installed, and the building envelope is taking shape. Its distinctive cupped design, symbolizing hands of care, is now clearly visible.

Big milestone alert - the roof is up!

The construction crew has just finished up putting the roof on our new building.

May - June 2025

Building Together - foundation laid and two floors up!

Construction is full-steam ahead at the Building Together site! The third-floor slab - requiring 380 cubic metres of concrete - has now been poured, and framing is officially underway. With new crews on site and materials arriving daily, progress is moving quickly!

February - April 2025

Already working on the 2nd floor!

Another milestone reached at the Building Together site! Last week, the crane was installed – just in time as work begins on forming the second-floor slab of our new community services and affordable housing hub here in Sechelt!

Breaking Ground

On November 15, we gathered at Inlet Avenue for one last group photo in front of our old building before construction begins on our new permanent home. It was great to stand together and celebrate this exciting step in the Building Together project.
